Red Jeep Provides Unique View of the Palm Springs CA area

I have yet to take a Red Jeeps tour myself, but after this release I can't wait to do so! I so often find myself just lounging around in the desert, but this is a more active way to partake in the natural splendor!

All About Palm Springs, CA - Eco Red Jeep Tours of Palm Springs - BlogHoster: "Desert Adventures offer many off road jeep safaris exploring the Coachella Valley.

For over 14 years, Desert Adventures has been 4x4'ing their way through the desert in and around Palm Springs, California. Trust me, they have lots of big red Jeeps: 18, but who's counting. They can lead any size group from one to 116 people on any of their three fully escorted regular Jeep tours. They range from the one I took, the Indian Cultural Adventure, to Lost Legends of the Wild West Adventure, where you can explore 'Faultline, Californy,' a replica of the Wild West mining camps that sprang up in the late 1800's and learn about mining techniques in a walk-through replica of an old mine. You can enjoy the colorful local history and legends of a rowdy by-gone era when settlers came here in search of freedom and fortune."

Experiencing Leonardo at the Palm Springs Air Museum | Art Knowledge News

If one book or movie can make art or an artist more accessible to the general public, then that must be a good thing. You've read the book, seen the movie, and even recognize "Starry Night"; now get to know the artist in the California desert: The Da Vinci Experience will be at the Palm Springs Air Museum from Nov. 3, 2006 to March 25, 2007. Information is available by visiting : www.palmspringsairmuseum.org and by viewing the article:
Experiencing Leonardo at the Palm Springs Air Museum | Art Knowledge News: "Palm Springs, CA - In the last few years, the world has rediscovered Leonardo da Vinci through a major work of popular fiction. But the reality of Leonardo’s life is that even the best fiction could not convincingly portray his multifaceted personality or fully document his achievements in the worlds of engineering, design, art, aviation and construction. ANNENBERG THEATER
Kyle Eastwood
.

Kyle Eastwood's first memories of music are of jazz. It was the only music he listened to for the first ten years of his life, thanks to his father Clint Eastwood's lifelong appreciation to the genre. The two attended the Monterey Jazz Festival regularly as Kyle was growing up, and there was something magnetic about watching Clint play piano at home, that completely captivated young Kyle.

It was while sudying film at USC that Eastwood realized that music, and more precisely jazz, was his true passion. Having dabbled on the electric bass as a teeneager, he now plays the upright, acoustic and double bass.

Well established on the Paris jazz scene, Eastwood lives between New Yor, LA, London and Paris. Eastwood recently released his secon CD, Paris Blue.

Indian Wells Resort (and Priceline) Review

When visiting the Palm Springs area in the past I've only stayed in Palm Desert:
Marriott Desert Springs Resort Villas I & II (timeshares, but reservable to outsiders)
Club Intrawest (timeshares, but somehow I got to stay at these gorgeous condos)
Palm Valley Country Club (my own luxury vacation rental condo)

Many of my trips to Palm Desert are for vacation rental business at Palm Valley, but my place is often occupied. I usually just suck it up and drive 2 hours out and back from Orange County. Not last week!

I decided to go out the night before, and being frugal...I decided to try Priceline for the first time ever. I'd always been afraid to use the service because too much was at stake when my trips involved airplanes and vacations. For one night though? In an area I know? Why Not?

My Priceline experience was great. I took a look at what they had in their inventory. Spent a few minutes researching the hotels and then decided they were still a little more than it was worth to me to spend the night (I put a $100 value on not having to drive it all in one day). I then saw the "name your price" feature and took a gamble: 3 stars in Indian Wells or Palm Desert for $50. They booked the Indian Wells Resort hotel for me at that rate, plus tax, with a continental breakfast included. It was only 10 minutes from my ultimate destination.

Upon arrival on a weekday evening the staff was efficient and curteous. The lobby was clean, inviting, and felt a bit luxurious for $50. Checkin was fine, EXCEPT I needed to pay a $16 "resort fee." I know these are not optional, but didn't see this disclosed anywhere with Priceline. I didn't choose to question the charge, because I already felt like I was getting a tremendous value.

For that $16 I was able to enjoy some appetizers in the bar before dinner time (plus and excellent Cosmo for a reasonable charge); an oatmeal breakfast and fresh coffee in the morning. Had I had time, it would have also given me access and transport to the private Indian Wells Country Club, home of the Bob Hope Classic, and at the Golf Resort at Indian Wells, named one of the 10 best golf courses in CA.

The Indian Wells Resort seemed a bit dated and confused: was it art deco or romanesque? My room was spacious, comfortable, and had free wireless internet, but it smelled a bit odd (either residual smoke at this non smoking hotel or mildew), but had been updated.
All in all, a 3 star accomodation, at a 1 star price! Not bad ;)

La Quinta's History Uncovered and Explained

There was a time when I, like most who hadn't spent any time in the desert cities of southern California, only knew of Palm Springs. I also just referred to the whole area as "Palm Springs." It is only clear to the repeat visitor and resident that there are very distinct cities "out there in the desert" and that they actually come with a rich history and flavor.

La Quinta is receiving it's own history book of sorts and it may be worth a read.

It seems La Quinta has always been a place to rejuvenate. Here I thought it was just me who discovered that it has good restaurants and affordable basic shopping (Target and Lowes).

"A resort brochure from the early years notes that when Southern California was Spanish territory travelers on horseback or in covered wagons often would spend four days roughing it through the desert before stopping at sites that were designated resting places for the fifth day.

"La quinta" is Spanish for "the fifth."

"On this day, the journey would end early and good food, music, dancing and wine would give the weary traveler his much needed relaxation," the brochure reads. It is unclear whether the site of the resort was one of those resting places, the promotional leaflet says."

Learn more about the history of La Quinta in the article link below:PE.com | Inland Southern California | Inland News

I only live 2 hours or so from Palm Springs, but you might not be so lucky. Why bother flying into LAX, renting a car there, fighting traffic, and wasting gas to get to the California desert resorts? 2006 Coachella Valley Music Festival

Well I sit here tonight jealous, very jealous...of my well screened (I hope) guests in my vacation rental tonight who will go to 2006 Coachella Valley Music Festival tommorrow and Sunday and see some of my favorite artists. Indio is just down the street from my place, and my favorite city in the desert: Palm Desert. My hopes are that these guests are just music fans like me...even if my tastes don't match many others.

Here's who I wish I could go see:
Madonna
Scissor Sisters
Matisyahu
Franz Ferdinand

Pretty shallow - yup I guess so, but I'm sure I'd discover many new faves. Hey, I'm over 40! What about you?

Welcome to the Source for Palm Desert Vacation Information

Thank you for visiting my blog. You are in the right place if you like the California desert, especially Palm Desert. I own a vacation rental in Palm Desert, and have been visiting the area from Orange County for many years with my family. Here I'll share common knowledge, secrets, tips, and opinions to help you enjoy your stay in the desert. I hope others will join me. Welcome.
