A Guy's Weekend May Have New Meaning - Golf and a Salt Scrub Dad?

This article came 2 days late to my inbox to make it for father's day, but in truth my father would roll over in his grave at the thought of a spa treatment of golf...but then again he was a man of the 50's not the 21s century. If you happen to have a guy in your life that likes a little pampering with his golf, the desert is the place to do it. Some special packages are outlined below, but they offer services for men all year round.

thedesertsun.com | Let Dad experience relaxation at a spa: "If you want to 'fix' your dad, or even pamper him a bit in time for his special day, consider treating him to one - or more - of these services from local spas, all of which are offering Father's Day specials:
The Renaissance Esmeralda Resort and Spa, 44-400 Indian Wells Lane, Indian Wells, 836-1265
'Men's Diamond Day.'
The Renaissance Spa offers a half-day, $285 treatment which includes a facial, sports massage and men's eucalyptus manicure and pedicure.
The Well Spa at Miramonte, 45-000 Indian Wells Lane, Indian Wells, 341-2200
'The Well Manicured Man.'
The Well will make dad look like he just came back from vacation with a $200, 30-minute Maestro Massage, a 30-minute facial and 30-minute brushed bronzing.
Palm Valley Country Club, 39205 Palm Valley Drive, Palm Desert, 345-2737
Dad can look good at the beach with Palm Valley's 'Dad O' Mine' Restorative Back Facial.
The 60-minute treatment costs $100 for club members and $125 for non-members and includes a cleansing back massage designed to relax and repair any unsightly blemishes.
The Westin Mission Hills Resort & Spa, 71333 Dinah Shore Drive, Rancho Mirage, 328-5955
The Westin Spa is offering a $99 facial and $99 massage designed for men. The facial is meant to lift and tone the skin while the massage relaxes tense muscles and sports injuries."

When the Desert Calls - New York Times

Palm Springs and the surrounding areas have long been the playground for Hollywood's rich and famous. However, it's no longer the rich and famous that are increasingly drawn to the desert for second homes and retirement homes. Read more about full time life in the desert - especially for retirees.

When the Desert Calls - New York Times: "By BARBARA E. HERNANDEZ
Published: May 27, 2007
ALAINA DeMARTINI decided to trade the San Francisco chill and fog for palm trees and bright stars in an open sky. So last year, she and her husband, David, a retired electrician, moved to the house in Palm Springs, Calif., that they bought as a second home five years ago."

Renoir, Degas, Manet, and Van Gogh to Visti Palm Springs This Summer

Why fight the crowds in Paris this summer to see the Master painters of the Impressionist era? Instead, you can enjoy the cool and uncrowded private collection which includes leaders in American painting. You may not be able to afford a trip to Europe's Louvre, but surely you can swing one out the Palm Springs this summer!

From this weeks Palm Springs Art Museum Newsletter:
"From Degas to De Kooning: Impressionist and Modern Masters at the Palm Springs Art Museum This Summer!

From June 15 through September 3, the Palm Springs Art Museum is privileged to once again present during the summer season a selection of outstanding Impressionist and Modern paintings on loan from a private collection. Many of these works have graced the galleries during earlier summers, but this year a very special addition has been made to the works on view, masterpieces by Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning, two of the leading figures in the New York School of Abstract Expressionism that developed in the late 1940s and catapulted American painting to international prominence. These outstanding works will be seen with eleven other paintings ranging from Impressionist studies of light and atmosphere by Edouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, to modernist essays in expressive color and form by Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso, to the contrasts of realism and abstraction in contemporary works by Wayne Thiebaud and Joan Mitchell.

THIS EXTRAORDINARY COLLECTION IS ON LOAN TO THE MUSEUM BY AN ANONYMOUS COLLECTOR, COURTESY OF HEATHER JAMES ART & ANTIQUITIES."

Golf Now in Palm Springs CA

So you're planning a trip to the adult playground of Palm Springs, CA but you aren't sure where or how to golf on the many courses (private, semi private, and public) scattered throughout the area?

May I recommend a couple of tactics?
  1. Rent a condo at a private country club, but ASK to be sure you will have golf priviledges. Check out Palm Valley Country Club to see how these can vary based on membership levels. Some clubs don't let guests/renters play at all - some allow unlimited use for a one time fee - some charge per play greens fees. Just be sure you know what you are renting.
  2. Reserve your tee time through a discount consolidator like GolfNow.com or Affordable Palm Springs Tee Times
  3. Let someone else do your research like PalmSprings.com
  4. Stay at a resort that offers golf privileges like the Marriott Desert Springs or Indian Wells Resort (book at priceline for steep discounts off season)
